| BLUEJ AND GREENFOOT GO OPEN SOURCE
4 March 2009
BlueJ and Greenfoot released under Open Source license
Following many requests from users, the BlueJ Team is pleased to announce the opening of the source code of both the Greenfoot and BlueJ systems under a widely used open source license.
With this step, the University of Kent and Deakin University, the hosts of these projects, are making an additional significant contribution to the Computer Science Education community. Users of BlueJ and Greenfoot can now download, examine, modify and adapt these highly popular systems to create new and exciting additions and improvements.
The license used is the GNU General Public License version 2 with the Classpath Exception. This brings the BlueJ and Greenfoot licenses in line with the license for NetBeans. BlueJ and Greenfoot are supported by Sun Microsystems.
The BlueJ team will continue to provide maintenance, development, updates and releases, as well as technical and community support at the same level as in the past. We are committed to maintaining the high standard of reliability and consistency a that our users have come to expect from BlueJ and Greenfoot releases.
The licenses are available at: Greenfoot License / BlueJ License
The source code is available on the download page (BlueJ / Greenfoot), and will be updated at the time of each new release.
